This creature is said to be the "Spirit of the lonely places" and is a cannibalistic spirit in Algonquin.
Apparently a human can change into a Wendigo when they indulge in cannibalism or when a Wendigo possesses a human.
Some say possession causes the transformaton, while others say you must be bitten.
The appearances are similar that of a Sasquatch and are both are often confused.
Wendigo's are usually described as tall (approx. 15 feet), thin humanoid creatures, sometimes twisted, bloodstained or fanged. It has no lips, bares jagged teeth and hisses everytime it breathes.
Its bones are usually visible through its yellow skin and its body is made of ice and matted fur with the stench of rotting corpses.
The Wendigos diet consits of human flesh and is believed to get bigger and more powerful with every human it consumes, growing more hungry which never gets satisfied.
In some traditions, a person possessed by a wendigo undergos violent cannibalistic acts, but in other traditions, once a person consumes another persons flesh they turn into a Wendigo.
When the Wendigo hunts, they follow their prey until it causes the prey to fall into hysteria, then the Wendigo atacks and consumes.
Anyone who survives a wendigo attack contracts wenigo fever, the person will feel an intense burning in their legs and have nightmares.
It is said that the Wendigo's icy heart is its weakness and burning it will kill it, while others say using silver will kill this beast.
